This year I decided to surprise my boyfriend for his birthday with a weekend in Stratford-Upon-Avon. We have never been there before and I found a good deal to use Wowcher, so I gave it a go!
My plan was to let him know about this journey just before the weekend, but I needed to be sure he is free on those days so I told him beforehand, but it was still a great present for him! We were excited about this short vacation, especially because we had only a few days off together lately and looking forward to spending more time together and just relax.
We got to this lovely city early morning on Saturday and headed into a local coffee shop. I ordered a cappuccino with baileys as it was on the menu but apparently, they didn`t serve it before 11 am as the waitress lady pointed out – in that early hours. Never mind, I was okay to have a normal cappuccino to warm me up!
Stratford is a lovely but small town in England’s West Midlands. One day is perfectly fine to explore it. We walked around the main streets where we found different shops such as clothing, sweet shops, all year open Christmas shop (which I think kills the holiday spirit), pubs, restaurants, coffees and bakeries. Stratford is the most famous about Shakespeare who born and lived there and our first stop at sightseeing was to check his birthplace. We could buy an all-in-one ticket to visit where he and his family lived. It was interesting to see that century`s style and know about the differences between poor and rich.
Late evening we went to check-in our accommodation which was a beautiful building with a huge room and with a swimming pool and Jacuzzi downstairs. Our dinner and breakfast were delicious and big portions that unfortunately, we didn’t have space for any dessert at the end. We never have…
On Sunday, we mainly just walked around the town, because we saw the majority of it and was nothing else we could think of doing it. We found a cozy pub and had a few gin and tonic, tasting different ones and gave a chance for fish and chips – which was one of the best ones I have ever had (but the winner is still in Larnaca…).
Well… going to Stratford-Upon-Avon is better by car as you don’t have to wait for your transport and you can be more flexible. Talking about a small town actually, we had to call a cab to get back from a hotel near the town center where there is Anne Hathaway`s Cottage (part of Shakespeare buildings) was and it cost us more than the ticket itself. No bus or uber was available.
I highly recommend visiting this town at least once if you like proper English towns. We had a lovely time, and our weekend was relaxing just as we needed.
